Project overview

CSC Screeding supplied and laid around 1,100m² of screed for the Uniqlo store at Churchill Square, Brighton. It was one of three Uniqlo stores we screeded simultaneously, alongside Canary Wharf, London and St David's Shopping Centre, Cardiff, with each store getting the screed system that suited its site.

The challenge

A retail unit in a busy shopping centre, with access to plan around, and this store running at the same time as two other Uniqlo stores in London and Cardiff. The floor build-up called for a damp proof membrane and more than one screed system within the same store.

Our solution

  • Applied a two-coat Hydraseal DPM with a quartz sand scatter to give the screed a key.
  • As a Flowcrete Approved Installer of Isocrete K-Screed, laid unbonded Isocrete K Screed.
  • Laid Cemfloor flowing screed.
  • Ran the store as one of three Uniqlo sites delivered simultaneously.

Products used

Hydraseal DPM (Flowcrete)

A two-coat, solvent-free epoxy surface damp proof membrane. For a cement screed topping, Flowcrete specifies a dry quartz sand scatter into the final coat to give the screed a key.

Isocrete K-Screed (Flowcrete)

A semi-dry cementitious screed with a water-reducing K-Additive for earlier drying and higher strength. Flowcrete states it can be used in bonded, unbonded or floating construction.

Cemfloor flowing screed

A cement-based, free-flowing, self-compacting flowing screed. Holcim describes it as delivered by truck mixer, placed by pumping and finished with a dappling bar.
