Case Study: Lidl Caterham
Case Study: Lidl Caterham – Reducing a Three-Week Programme to One
Project Overview
When CSC Screeding were appointed to deliver the screeding package for Lidl’s new store in Caterham, the site presented a clear logistical challenge.
There was no room to store materials. No bulk bags, no pallets, and no spare space for staging. Every area of the site was already being used by other trades.
The plan was to use Duremit 50 sand and cement screed, but without storage, this would have required daily deliveries. That approach would have slowed progress, created unnecessary coordination issues, and pushed the screeding phase well beyond the planned programme.
The Challenge
Extremely limited site space
No ability to store materials or waste
Tight completion schedule
Coordination pressure with other trades
Under standard conditions, the screeding works were expected to take three weeks to complete.
The Approach
To overcome the access and storage limitations, CSC deployed Maverick, our On-Demand Mobile Screed Factory.
Maverick produces fresh flowing screed directly on site, mixing precise quantities exactly when and where they are needed.
To keep Maverick operating continuously throughout the day, CSC used its own grab lorry to deliver sand directly to site, ensuring a steady supply without relying on external third party.
This integration between our mobile plant and in-house logistics meant the team could work without interruption, maintain quality, and operate with complete flexibility.
The system eliminated waste, reduced vehicle movements, and kept the site clean and clear for other trades.
The Results
What was planned as a three-week programme was completed in one week.
There were no delays waiting for materials, no site congestion, and no compromise on quality.
The project demonstrated the effectiveness of combining on-demand production with controlled logistics particularly in restricted environments like retail fit-outs where space and time are limited.
Key Insights
The Caterham Lidl project showcased how modern screeding delivery can adapt to site constraints without slowing progress.
By integrating mobile screed production with CSC’s own supply chain, the team achieved full control over quality, timing, and efficiency.
This approach allowed CSC to maintain continuous output, reduce waste, and deliver programme certainty on a site where traditional methods would have struggled.
